A Word of Forgiveness

There's something powerful about someone's last words. And that is especially true of the final words Jesus spoke from the cross. As Jesus suffered crucifixion for us, the gospel writers recorded seven sayings of Jesus from the cross, seven last words. In these seven sayings we discover not only predictable Good Friday themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, redemption, and atonement but also theologies of incarnation, mission, and hospitality. These seven sayings are the focus of our new series Last Words. In the weeks leading up to Easter this Lent, we will take a closer look at these final words Jesus spoke before he died on the cross and discover their significance for us today.
